Charging error 19: All Roomba® and Braava® models

« Go Back
Article Details

Charging error nineteen (19) indicates that the robot is on the Home Base/Clean Base® but cannot charge properly. If charging takes significantly longer than expected, the battery times out and stops charging because there could be a hardware or maintenance issue. The most common cause is charging contacts that are damaged or need maintenance.

Take your robot off the dock and try putting the robot in dispatch mode/sleep mode. Then, reactivate the robot by placing it on the Home/Clean Base®.

This error can also be cleared by removing and reinstalling the battery.

To resolve this issue, please start by cleaning the charging contacts.

  • Unplug the base and wait 60 seconds.
  • Remove the robot from the charging station and place the robot upside down on a flat surface.
  • Grab a lightly dampened melamine foam such as a Magic Eraser, or a lightly dampened cloth.
  • Clean the metal charging contacts on your robot and dock. They should have a visible shine.

Note: Damaged contacts could also prevent your robot from charging. If the contacts are green or copper-coloured, they are damaged and the robot or base with the damaged contacts needs to be replaced.

Make sure that power is going to the Home Base by checking the power cable connections, both at the wall and on the Home Base. Unplug both connections and plug them back in.

If the issue persists, the most likely cause for error 19 is that the battery has not been properly installed, so power is not reaching the battery. Please remove and reinstall the battery from the robot to clear charging error 19.

If the issue persists after reinstalling the battery, we may need to leave the battery out a little longer. Please remove the battery once again, but this time leave the battery outside the robot for at least 30 minutes. This will force the battery to reset itself. After 30 minutes, reinstall the battery and try again.

If the error persists after following all of the steps outlined above, contact iRobot Customer Care for additional assistance. For expedited service, please have the following ready:

⦁    Your robot charged and with you.
⦁    Your robot’s serial number.
⦁    For warranty claims: Proof of purchase (the receipt or invoice for purchase from an authorised retailer).
